IARM Information Security

The Requirement

IARM needed a complete makeover of their existing website which was not in a great shape. They wanted a more modern, simpler, more navigable website that communicates their brand that they are. Also, they needed to show their primary differentiating factor in the market in a simple manner. They needed the website to be able to communicate to a potential client about what the company is really capable of and their achievements.

The Design

We spent over a month at the prototyping phase with a regular and healthy feedback from the client for how exactly we can do the complete re-design and re-branding. We made understandable illustrations that captured the essence of what the client wanted in their communication. As for the design-system, we used the tried-and-tested Material Design, with a few custom elements. Also, the animations were planned to be functional, just enough to highlight the important aspects of the website.

The Technology

Once the high-fidelity wireframes were ready, we built the website that is optimised for speed and performance. We stuck to using vanilla javascript and jQuery and did not use any unnecessary frameworks so as to keep the bloat low. We ensured that the animations did not cause stutter or dropped frames. And the hosting was on Google App Engine, a PAAS service that helped a quicker code-to-deployment time, easier maintenance and helped us do better AB testing.

Kitchen Shelf

The Requirement

The Kitchen Shelf (name changed) team needed us to build an e-commerce solution from scratch, as they had a completely different approach to the sourcing and the logistics aspects of the business. Hence they did not want to go with the generic e-commerce solutions, like Shopify, BigCommerce etc. They needed an android app and a web-app for the mobile only.

The Design

So, one of the constraints in designing for a Tier II city is that an average use case would be that of a low to a medium-end phone with an average internet connection. The design of the API was such that it was faster compared to any other frameworks/languages, especially considering that we did not have a CDN. The design-system used was Material Design with certain custom elements. Since the web-app use case was mostly mobile, the whole design is optimised for mobile. We ensured that the desktop version doesn’t look too shabby either.

The Technology

The backend was Java and MySql on a nginx server, and for the front-end, we used Angular JS 1.6. We also integrated an intelligent search option that would take care of misspellings etc in the search. The whole web-app was an SPA. Both, the web-app and the android app was optimised to be very performant.

Focusmonky

The Requirement

This is an in-house product of Tessel that was built for the helping the productivity of the team. The time-tracking chrome plugin effectively monitors the time that is spent on each website and able to intelligently categorise it, for instance, the plugin will tell how much time has been spent on e-commerce sites in aggregate or social media etc. Also helps you set a limit on certain activities based on your custom settings.

The Design

The focus was on making it genuinely useful and feel non-intrusive. The components were designed to be light-weight and hence they were coded using pure-CSS. It had a detailed settings menu that helps you configure various settings. The app was designed to have certain intelligence built and leverages Machine learning. It is currently being just run for the in-house team and not available for the public.

The Technology

jQuery, vanilla javascript and Chrome APIs primarily were used to develop the plugin. The backend used was Python and Google’s NDB (which is known for high scalability). The sync feature let people sync with the various devices they have.

Offers Lookup

The Requirement

Fetch real-time prices from various e-commerce websites for a product/product type. This has to be fast and relevant to the user search query. Also, enable the user to subscribe to price drop alerts of the product on different websites.

The Design

There was not much emphasis on the visual design of the product as this was more of a weekend hack. But, a lot of emphases went into the backend to make the queries super-fast.

The Technology

Uses Java and MySQL in the backend. And angular V1.x in the front-end
